Board and Batten Wall


Okay so my number 1 quarantine project was this board and batten wall. I kept seeing them on Pinterest and wanted one too. The green ones had caught my eye the most. I debated on green or gray, but my room is whites/woods/gray/tan with some plants here and there so I went with green.

Picking Out a Paint Color:

I originally was going to go with a dark green from sherwin williams (I cannot for the life of me remember which one and cannot find the inspo picture, but if I do I will post). However I narrowed it down to the four listed above and was really thinking I wanted Hunt Club.


Erin at @cottonstem gave me the idea to buy the samples and actually paint to see which one I liked. With some help from the Sherwin Williams peeps, I picked Isle of Palms (left) and Basil (right). AS you can see Isle of Palms ended up looking like Hunt Club, so I'm glad the workers talked me out of Hunt Club because it probably was super dark.


I decided to go with Isle of Palms by Sherwin Williams.


Basically you just get plywood (I think LOL) and nail it to the wall and then paint. I had my friend's brother do it for me though. I have seen them with the entire wall lined with plywood like a border, but I didn't think I needed that, however I think it would make it look cleaner.


Here was the wall before. It didn't take long, maybe 4 hours.


Also here is an image of my before bedroom (and pup lol). I love the way my room looks before, but I think it is fun to have an accent wall. For more follow me on instagram @thebeachclassroom.

Lucky Charms Writing

 Friday we made these little cereal boxes. I had it up on our front board and they were so shocked at how much it looked like a real cereal box lol. I printed it out in black and white so they could color it how they want. I try to do a mix of craftivities where they use colored cardstock and then some they can be creative and make it however they want!  I tried to tell them they didn't have to write a whole sentence because a. the pictures are small / they have big handwriting and b. I thought it would be easier lol, but because they rock - a lot of them were writing full blown sentences. Bless them! lol I had them write in pencil first then they were allowed to go over it in sharpie if they wanted to. In our classroom we have a bin of sharpies I keep behind my desk. Weekly Recap

Happy Valentine's Day! I used to feel like I needed something to do on Valentine's day, but now that I'm old and wise (lol) I don't care and I just want to make it fun for my kids. As you can see, I thought making slime would be fun... The kids were so excited and hype, but my desk was a disaster and it didn't go as planned lol. Last year I hired someone to come in and face paint, but obviously with Covid we couldn't do that this year. I mainly did the slime because they have been keeping their bookshelves clean and tidy without being asked and I wanted to let them know I appreciate that.  On Valentine's day we also watched a Number Jacks movie (their favorite- it also was only like 40 minutes which I like because it isn't extremely long) and really didn't do anything else that was party related because we had a intruder drill which took up a chunk of time and I told them we HAD to do math stations. Teaching Recap Jan 25

It was a short week! We had Friday off for PD and a teacher work day. This is my 'focus' board. We don't really call it anything, but the kids use it all the time to reference what we are doing- which was the whole point! My cooperating teacher had something similar when I student taught. This area has evolved over my years of teaching, but I think I finally have it down.  In writing we are working on having our writing make sense when we read it. We also are going to start incorporating math into writing. I kind of felt bad when they did the pre-test because they wanted to do it correctly, but were a little confused lol. Poor babes. One person wrote "I like" because we have been doing opinion writing for the last five months haha. We are also going to start informational writing, which is the greatest of all time. We read Nerdy Birdy, which is one of my favorites. We mainly focused on verbs because when they are writing they have a hard time with 'ing'. N...
