Book Wall

Finally sharing a blog about my little book wall! I got this idea from Erin @cottonstems. I love to read and I typically read in my front room so I knew I wanted to do this somewhere near there. It was super easy to do and was done within twenty-four hours.


Step 1: Find a picture that you want to put as the center. I found this one at hobby lobby and thought it was perfect. I was going to have one made that said A told B and B told C (from chicka chicka boom boom), but decided if I ever do a kid book wall I'll use that then. ;)

Step 2: Find books. You can go on Facebook market place, check out thrift stores, or use old ones of your own. I decided to use ones I had. 


Step 3: Rip out pages and then lay out the books and pages before putting on the wall. I decided to use only Nicholas Sparks books because he is probably my favorite author. I have enjoyed so many of his books. My favorite being the Notebook. I took out the most famous parts of the Notebook for the loose pages. I also took out chapter titles for the loose pages too and did 1-28 (I am 28 years old). For the full books I just used different ones from the author that I had.


Here is another picture of laying out the books and the wall I decided to put it on. I went with a smaller wall so it could appear fuller. I almost put it on a really long wall, but decided against it.


Step 4: Hang picture up and then add the pages and books. I started this project around 10PM lol so by midnight I needed to take a break, which I am glad I did because I tend to try to finish projects in a hurry and then they turn out like I finished in a hurry lol. I just nailed the books in with a hammer and nail. The pages are up on the wall with tape...lol (rolled behind).



Step 5: Get an adorable dog and you're done! I also added a bench from hobby lobby (see first picture).

SUBTRACTION WINTER CRAFT

If you've been around for awhile you know that I LOVE craftivities. I think they are so much more fun than just the regular day to day lessons and even more than random stations. Lucky Charms Writing

 Friday we made these little cereal boxes. I had it up on our front board and they were so shocked at how much it looked like a real cereal box lol. I printed it out in black and white so they could color it how they want. I try to do a mix of craftivities where they use colored cardstock and then some they can be creative and make it however they want!  I tried to tell them they didn't have to write a whole sentence because a. the pictures are small / they have big handwriting and b. I thought it would be easier lol, but because they rock - a lot of them were writing full blown sentences. Bless them! lol I had them write in pencil first then they were allowed to go over it in sharpie if they wanted to. In our classroom we have a bin of sharpies I keep behind my desk. I labeled them at the beginning of the year and we are still going strong!!! That was probably one of my top ten ideas ever as a Kindergarten teacher. Weekly Recap

Happy Valentine's Day! I used to feel like I needed something to do on Valentine's day, but now that I'm old and wise (lol) I don't care and I just want to make it fun for my kids. As you can see, I thought making slime would be fun... The kids were so excited and hype, but my desk was a disaster and it didn't go as planned lol. Last year I hired someone to come in and face paint, but obviously with Covid we couldn't do that this year. I mainly did the slime because they have been keeping their bookshelves clean and tidy without being asked and I wanted to let them know I appreciate that.  On Valentine's day we also watched a Number Jacks movie (their favorite- it also was only like 40 minutes which I like because it isn't extremely long) and really didn't do anything else that was party related because we had a intruder drill which took up a chunk of time and I told them we HAD to do math stations.
