Book Wall

Finally sharing a blog about my little book wall! I got this idea from Erin @cottonstems. I love to read and I typically read in my front room so I knew I wanted to do this somewhere near there. It was super easy to do and was done within twenty-four hours.


Step 1: Find a picture that you want to put as the center. I found this one at hobby lobby and thought it was perfect. I was going to have one made that said A told B and B told C (from chicka chicka boom boom), but decided if I ever do a kid book wall I'll use that then. ;)

Step 2: Find books. You can go on Facebook market place, check out thrift stores, or use old ones of your own. I decided to use ones I had. 


Step 3: Rip out pages and then lay out the books and pages before putting on the wall. I decided to use only Nicholas Sparks books because he is probably my favorite author. I have enjoyed so many of his books. My favorite being the Notebook. I took out the most famous parts of the Notebook for the loose pages. I also took out chapter titles for the loose pages too and did 1-28 (I am 28 years old). For the full books I just used different ones from the author that I had.


Here is another picture of laying out the books and the wall I decided to put it on. I went with a smaller wall so it could appear fuller. I almost put it on a really long wall, but decided against it.


Step 4: Hang picture up and then add the pages and books. I started this project around 10PM lol so by midnight I needed to take a break, which I am glad I did because I tend to try to finish projects in a hurry and then they turn out like I finished in a hurry lol. I just nailed the books in with a hammer and nail. The pages are up on the wall with tape...lol (rolled behind).



Step 5: Get an adorable dog and you're done! I also added a bench from hobby lobby (see first picture).

Lucky Charms Writing

 Friday we made these little cereal boxes. I had it up on our front board and they were so shocked at how much it looked like a real cereal box lol. I printed it out in black and white so they could color it how they want. I try to do a mix of craftivities where they use colored cardstock and then some they can be creative and make it however they want!  I tried to tell them they didn't have to write a whole sentence because a. the pictures are small / they have big handwriting and b. I thought it would be easier lol, but because they rock - a lot of them were writing full blown sentences. Bless them! lol I had them write in pencil first then they were allowed to go over it in sharpie if they wanted to. In our classroom we have a bin of sharpies I keep behind my desk. SUBTRACTION WINTER CRAFT

If you've been around for awhile you know that I LOVE craftivities. I think they are so much more fun than just the regular day to day lessons and even more than random stations. I typically tend to hate station games and cut out cards because they get lost and what not. #iykyk Over winter break I was trying to prep to come back and I knew I wanted to start doing a math craft every Friday. I am a creature of habit and routine, so I want to start doing Monday-Thursday stations and Friday craftivities. I saw a few subtraction craftivities on pinterest, but they weren't really sparking my interest. I wanted something different than something being eaten and it needed to be winter themed. So penguins on and off an iceberg just popped into my head.   I decided to first let my kids color the penguins. Pigeon Activities!

So Monday all the kids were here and Alex and I were together as well. Tuesday the kids didn't come and we got the room ready. Wednesday they were all here for their 'first day' knowing who their teacher was. Alex and I were both here Wednesday. Then Thursday started the job share. I am Thursday, Friday and Alex is Monday, Tuesday. Then we rotate Wednesdays! I used Thursday as what I would typically do on the first day- PIGEON! (click the picture for link to the book) First activity- graphing! We sat around the edge of the carpet for the first time (my fav thing to do). Everyone got a turn to put their name on the graph. The two choices were 'wanted to go to school' and 'didn't want to go to school'.
